A message from Ben Rainbow:
Dear Adastrans,
The Steyning Downland Scheme (SDS) exists to engage local people, and
young people in particular, in enhancing their local landscape for the
benefit of the community, the land and its wildlife. The SDS proposes to
set up a team of volunteer surveyors, with help from local specialists,
to monitor developments on the open chalk grassland. The outcomes of
this will directly inform future land management decisions, and
contribute to building up a more detailed and informed picture of
wildlife on the Steyning Downs. It will also be used to introduce young
people to the richness of their locality, and to show them the effects
of conservation work they have carried out themselves. And it should be
good fun!
We envisage organising set days for groups to go out and survey the area
this summer, learning from each other, and enjoying the detail of the
countryside together. This should take a morning or an afternoon, and
refreshments will be provided.
A meeting will be held in Steyning on 21st April 5 - 7pm. Location TBC
