Many thanks Peter - it was quite spectacular before the green colour faded. It would seem that it has spread inland as far as Fernhurst, unless of course it hitvhed a lift on my car!

Your beetle is Cassida vittasta which in Britain is mainly a coastal 
species.. The only similar species in this country, Cassida nobilis, has 
the hind angles of the pronotum more rounded.
