I was amazed to see a Herring Gull nesting on the GROUND in Sainsburys' car park in Rustington last week. They had cordoned the area off with overturned trolleys but I guess some local idiots will probably still have a go at them.

Hi Victoria,
Your gulls seem a lot more advanced than ours here in Bexhill, some are
still at the nest building stage and I certainly haven't seen any young.
The lesser black backs will be a little behind the Herrings as they are
summer migrants so start 2-3 later. Make sure you report the LBB Gulls as
they are actually quite scarce in Sussex(under recorded).
As for other baby birds, lots of great tits and blackbirds about, several
blue tit broods seem to have died in the nest this year and baby dunnocks
are thin on the ground.
Cheers.

I'm sure you're all sick of them by now but i'm finding the baby seagulls
quite exciting
I can see four babies from my bedroom window (on the rooftops of brighton).
There are two nests and two babies in each nest. I think they must have
hatched about a week or so ago, they're already quite frisky walking to the
edge of the chimney and looking about. They're squabbling over some food as
i type this. I almost like herring gulls again despite one dive bombing me
for my sausage roll last year.
There's also a lesser black backed gull nesting on the roof tops near me but
her babies don't seem to have hatched yet, she still seems to be sitting on
her eggs.
I've posted a picture of the little fluffy bundles on flickr in case anyone
is interested. This link should work, apologies if it doesn't:

Has anyone else been enjoying the sight of baby birds?
